Energetic pop group The Aces have been on the steady rise, enjoying the hard-earned success of their last EP, the I Don’t Like Being Honest EP, and letting it spin them on new adventures and towards new successes. The Aces have shared the stage with both Joywave and Portugal. The Man, and now they’re ready to blow our minds with their allusion-filled summer pop smash “Volcanic Love”.
“Out of the darkness I sparked a match that set the fire,” opens the track. Aptly, the first impression is brightness: the guitars pull an 80s tinted melody while synths swoop and the vocals spring forth with a kick. However, the video grounds itself in a range of sentiments pulled from a selection of visually stunning romantic films and stories — not all of them as sunny as the song suggests. There’s darkness in a Comet shout out, frustration in an Across The Universe inspired painting scene, and a bright loneliness in a Gatsby-inspired room full of flowers. There’s more — can you spot them?
Just as the characters from these stories must go through frustration before love can be (or not be) realized, “Volcanic Love” isn’t afraid to move beyond the pop-tune and express soulful desire.
“Volcanic Love” is the title track from The Aces’ upcoming debut album, When My Heart Felt Volcanic, which is set for release on April 6th, 2018. To hear more from The Aces you can find them on their website and Facebook page. You can also follow the band on Twitter.
