I was ready to go after my 19th birthday/ Dropped those 30 pills and said fuck it
Somebody told me God was in me and I asked to see him/ He told me, Hello
Houston artist Jack Vance, drops “Black Red Ranger,” his first single of 2016. Vance finds himself mixing a variety of genres and techniques from rap to electronic to a hint of southern influence.
You get a real Lupe Fiasco vibe from “Black Red Ranger,” but don’t mistake it, Vance creates his own powerful track with superior production, wonderful world selection and intricate story telling capabilities.
That last strength is key. Vance, starts off in a monologue with a tale of his 19-year-old self contemplating suicide but then quickly turns to God who steers him in a different direction. The story draws you in and keeps you listening.
We’re hoping “Black Red Ranger” is the first of many powerful productions for the mind of Jack Vance this year and beyond. To hear more, check out his SoundCloud.
