Adaline has said that her goal is “to love freely”, and that this somethimes gets her into tough emotional spots. It is with this in mind that she crafted her new album, Aquatic, which explores the painful and raw sides of relationships. On “Nostalgia” you can hear it in the longing vocals that seem to linger among rather than push through the pain. Electronic beats fill out the song as Adaline’s voice floats, and the result is room-filling atmosphere that calls for something lost.
The complimentary clip toys with the idea of youth and adulthood when it comes to the complexity of a relationship. An adult couple and a child couple blend into one amidst the setting of a school gym set up for a dance. At first separated by a lake of balloons, the couple meet in a clash of chemistry before ultimately being separated back to their sides. There is no shortage of nostalgia, but perhaps more starkly, there is a heavy dose of yearning wrapped in a bow of complexity.
