Orlando rapper Amiri Khaalid is no newbie to NSM. We got familiar with the up-and-coming artist with our premiere of his Transparency EP and have been waiting on more music from him ever since. As the hype grows around Khaalid in Florida, he’s returned to the NSM pages to premiere a new track, “End Up.”
“End Up” is a step in a different direction: Khaalid experiments with his flow, starting off with slow raps and then gaining speed as his lyrics grow increasingly intricate. The beat is a step forward for Khaalid’s long-time producer, SASQUATCH, as well. It playfully glitches, creating the perfect sound to match Khaalid’s taunting verses. The change in beat at the end is paired with a new flow for Khaalid that is reminiscent of an eager Danny Brown. However, the spiritual lyrics are distinctly Khaalid’s.
“I just wanted to have fun and try something different,” Khaalid said about the song via email. “The song is motivation to myself that if I keep my faith strong and keep a steady work ethic, I know everything else will work itself out.”
