Disco of the modern day: it should be danceable, but acknowledge the complexity of the world; freeing, but aware that so much of life feels like a trap. This is what LA artist Beca achieves with her dark-edged synth dance music. With “In Deep Love”, she explores the luxury and the confusion that comes with high emotions.
Whether the characters in the clip are coated in gold, draped in cherry-red, or sliding across the screen with sweeping dance moves, there is a tension. Beca is seen trapped in a cage, her golden counterpart staring straight into the camera, all while the moves of the dancer-in-white become almost panicked in their urgency. Soprano vocals dip and lurch in melodious waves, imparting that both love and dance music have the ability to go deeper.
There is no lack of blood-pumping beats on “In Deep Love”, but there is also an emotional complexity that will keep you locked into the world that the track and video combo create. The experience mixes enlightenment with a heavy profoundness.
