The Captain’s Son have found a musical home in Southern California. Hailing from Springfield, Missouri, the band have established a distinctly surf-rock sound with a hint of garage haze, and have been impressing the crowds of So-Cal with great live shows in preparation of the release of their first EP, which will drop on March 10th — just in time for sunshine.
The first taste of the EP is a track titled “Walking Around Purposely”. It’s a summery tune with a guitar riff that loops around the track while vocals find lovely harmonies amidst the jangling and encompassing sound. Near the halfway mark, the pace shifts into a full-on jam. It’s a track that screams of chilled out fun: bliss on a beach.
The three-piece band bring this chill into their entire expression, embracing a laid-back lifestyle despite the surefire stress of performing gigs. They exude a spirit of recreation. The warmth of “Walking Around Purposely” stems from the band’s professed love of analogue, and their careful crafting of a sound with the same emotional pull.
