Galway-based musician and producer Cat Turner has taken her sound into her own hands and her unique brand of ‘goth pop’ is the result. With a steadily rising fan base and her debut EP set to release on March 9th — this is an artist to watch. “Waster” — a New Sick Music premiere — is a taste of what is to come: sharp, fervent, and packing a late-night EDM vibe that will follow you through any experience. “Waster” is a song about struggling with yourself and becoming the strongest you that you can be.
“Take a back seat. I’ll drive because we’re losing the light,” Turner sings in her distinctive raw voice. Every aspect of the track establishes an urgency, and the stakes are high: “You have dug your grave now, you don’t know your way now, surely this is going to hurt.” The synths fall with a retro reverberation, harkening back to when EDM first exploded on the scene. A dash of nostalgia embedded in the modern production style. The melodic swing of synths against the grit of Turner’s voice creates a sound unlike anything else on the market.
“Waster” comes off Cat Turner’s forthcoming debut EP, which is slated for release on March 9th, 2018. To hear more from Cat Turner while you wait, you can find her on her website, SoundCloud, and Facebook page. You can also follow her on Twitter.
