Here is what I know about The Beatles when it comes to Christmas: As a gift to members of their fan clubs, The Beatles would release a Christmas song every year and send it to their fans. I also know that Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime” has made it into the Christmas music canon. And, speaking of that canon, I know I am always excited for new, not-already-drilled-into-my-brain holiday songs.
The Christmas Hearts Club Band is an offshoot of Manchester artist Lost Nomad’s projects — his own once-a-year gift to fans, you could say — and works to evoke the Beatles with a song that expertly toes the line between atmospheric experimentation and pure 60s joyous pop. “Throw your doubts away, step into the light, merry Christmas everyone!”
The vocals switch from Marty Craggs to India Foskett to give the track an extra depth, and to ensure you’re humming along by the end. The highlight of the track comes with the arrival of strings, ushered in by a chorus of vocals, then exploding once more into that addictive chorus.
For fans of the Beatles and fans of Christmas alike, you will find something to smile about with this track — and the equally fun video. We could all use a smile as we come to the end of this complicated year.
