Though having been involved in music in some way or another for years, Chrystyna Marie‘s Loaded Gun is her first solo project, and the lead single of the same name achieves her unique “raw and gritty” blues goals. The track is a truly honest love song and gives a dark and edgy perspective that swells with her powerhouse vocals. The song is boundless and features a great groove while exploring themes of love and power. You feel this one in your bones.
The rest of the EP (to be released on February 29th, 2016) explores genre and tests the ranges of Chrystyna Marie’s vocals. “No More” is a piano filled pop tune that’s almost anthemic. “The Tower” feels magical in the misty atmosphere that permeates the track. In the last minute or so, the song seems to make good on a promise of something big, something impressive, and breaks open with the inclusion of percussion.
But it is the smokey blues club feel of “Down The Road” that seems to best compliment the lead single. The pounding of the bass drum keeps the song grounded as it flows from loud to quiet and back again. Clearly, this EP displays Chrystyna Marie’s ability to pull of an array of genres, of moods, and of styles, together while always keeping her immense vocal abilities at the forefront.
