Couch Jackets are back on the New Sick Music pages with their strange and shifting clip for new single “Pillos N Rillos”, which was released alongside their latest album, Go to Bed. The Conway-based band recorded Go To Bed in Nashville, where the music scene is hot and experimentation runs rampant. And experiment they did: “Pillos N Rillos” is a twisty, bending track of psychedelic effects and chaos. In short: it’s a trip.
The movement of the song runs almost as a score to the film that unfolds in the video. Pulling from the unexpected elements of the track, the video keeps you on the edge of your seat as you watch what seems to be a standard scene of black-tie noir gang violence, but ends up taking a much sillier twist. Somehow, despite the ridiculousness, there is still the heavy sense of danger. You won’t be able to tell whether you should be biting your nails or laughing out loud. But why choose? Couch Jackets beckon you to do both.
Leaving the more straightforward melody and meaning of “Don’t Think Just Breathe”, “Pillos N Rillos” indulges in the more chaotic side of Couch Jackets — though together these tracks lend an outline to the abstract painting that is Go To Bed.
