Boston rapper Cousin Stizz has caused one hell of a stir since ‘Suffolk County’ dropped last year. The up-and-coming artist topped many “Best of 2015” lists and has put Boston on the hip-hop map. His distinct sound merges catchy hooks, introspective lyrics and trappy beats to create music unlike anything before it. With a new project on the way, Cousin Stizz is poised to dominate in 2016.
On “Super Bowl,” Stizz talks about his future and his past in between a catchy, repetitive hook. “Fuck drink smoke all day” is the anthem, but his lyrics tell a much more detailed story: “Loyalty and money, I’m a product / School of hard knocks, I’ve got a doctorate” and “And I mean every word on every flow / My name is ringing bells on every door” suggest that Stizz has more on his mind than just partying. It’s a banger with bigger ideas tossed in. Shout out to Stizz for churning out something that combines turn-up music with quotable lyrics.
