Florence Donovan — musically known as Dos Floris — always knew she should be making music; she believed in her unique sound, the seemingly impossible task of blending electronic and acoustic music to create something more than cohesive: something beautiful. After spending two years under the stairs creating her debut release The Widowed Earth, she is ready to share her creations. To start, the video that accompanies the single, “Silence”.
When I say “goes along with”, I suppose I mean “follows”, for that is what the eye of the camera does through the video. We follow Dos Floris as she moves across sandy beach-scapes, into forest, past drawn-out sunbathers, and eventually right into the sea. The song knows when to pull back and embrace restraint, but also when to unleash percussion like a gun. There is a sense of strength in the steady beat and floating vocals, a sense that Dos Floris is not prepared to give up.
The Widowed Earth is about giving up the past and moving onward, and the video for “Silence” traces this theme, while the music proves that Dos Floris is a force of resilience to be reckoned with — one that will be here for some time.
