The Early Comebacks call their sound “Mellow Yellow Alternative Jellow”, which was certainly fitting of their self-titled debut, and still resonates with their new offering, “Pass You By” — though the words now seem too light in the wake of the new track’s depth. “Pass You By” takes a shift for the heavier, and finds the band’s usual bouncy pace infused with strings.
All of this speaks to the thematic tone of the track: the pain of a missed opportunity is sweetened by a humbleness. Soft-spoken without being soft or spoken, the track plays with sonic dynamics, and closes with music-box delicacy underscored by whorls of sound.
Kevin T. and Kevin C. make up The Early Comebacks and are audibly influenced by 60s pop and 00s indie. The Bay Area duo are gearing up to release their new EP this Spring. To keep up with The Early Comebacks, check out their website, Facebook page, and SoundCloud.
