Melbourne-based collective Fire to the Stars have been turning heads with their videos, but it’s the dreamy shoegaze music — with influences coming from My Bloody Valentine and Grouper — that keeps you hooked. Check out their latest video for the track “Stay Down” to see what all the hype is about.
The vocals seem to vibrate with emotion as a simple guitar line and delicate piano add to the atmosphere. An electronic wash of sound breaths in and out of the track. The video, which uses excerpts from Kyle V James and Michael Bourne’s award winning short film, “The Death Drive”, accentuates the tone of the track. The film is a tragedy that explores themes of what it means to be alive, a perfect compliment to the haunting tonal nature of the track. You can find the full film here.
The band has a track record for making stunning and award-winning music videos. This video is the second clip from Fire to the Stars’s album Made of Fire, following in the big footsteps of the title track, “Made of Fire”.
