If you’re like me and you give yourself approximately 30 seconds to make a decision on whether or not you like a track, a good sample can totally make that decision for you. Spectrum got it’s heart button clicked within the first 3 seconds due to the simultaneous use of two such samples. You might recognise the resounding “Run through your clique / you pissed on trip / I’mma have to bust you in your lips” from the Timbaland produced Missy Elliot track She’s A Bitch, but unless you’re from the South-east Asian country of over 7000 islands The Philippines, you probably won’t recognise the foreign language sample, in which a young Tagalog speaking female discusses a significant other. Loosely translated to “He is really annoying but I think I really love him”, the sample contains an arguably confusing statement typical of many females, especially a Filipina 😉
GoldLink‘s newest track sees him team up with frequent collaborator, prospective Soulection producer Louie Lastic, who produced three tracks off the 2015 XXL Freshman‘s 2014 mixtape The God Complex. The 22 year old DMV rapper has become known for his creative cocktail of rap and future bass beats, and if – like me – you’ve found yourself quite fond of that “future bounce” sound, Spectrum won’t disappoint.
