When did the word “heartthrob” become rooted to the icons and sounds of the past? Well, when you love the sounds of the past as much as I do, you’ll find it easy to describe the brothers Cosby as heartthrobs: their effortlessly smooth and catchy sound washes over you with all the synth-sounds of the 80s — but never fear, their production and songwriting is rooted right here in the present.
Heartracer are a four-piece band founded by Chris and Chip Cosby and named for Chris’s tachycardia — a disorder that has his heart rate speeding up at random. Their music is propulsive: just listen to their latest single, “Diamond Sea”. With both atmospheric and jangling synth sounds finding their anchor in a spacious electric guitar line, the vocals move from the casual to as boundless as the guitar. To pair a visual with that sound, check out the performance video for the track. “Diamond Sea”, as well as its performance, is massive and has the ability to work its way across a room.
Whether you’re filling your bedroom with the sound of Heartracer or blasting it at a party, “Diamond Sea” has the dreamy 80s ability to grab attention and, well, steal hearts.
