After dropping the pleasing “Loud Places” and “Gosh” off his highly-anticipated album In Colour, today we finally get the CDQ version of the track that had everyone cocking their heads and saying ‘what?’ when the full tracklist for the project was released a while back.
“I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)” is a strange and slightly eccentric mix of soul chorus samples, Jamie’s trademark chimey electro, Popcaan‘s Dancehall vocals and Young Thug‘s own-brand of hyper-visual rap (“I’m gonna ride in that pussy like a stroller!” claims Thug on the track). The song is an exciting mix of styles, and we’ve seen blogs already hailing it as the ‘Summer Jam of 2015’. Somehow, the styles manage to work in unison with eachother, and it’s definitely a track that’s going to get a lot of play in the next few months.
Jamie described the inspiration for this track to be a drive blasting Hot 97 from Manhattan to Brooklyn, and a Popcaan-less version of the track has been floating around for a while, but thankfully now we have the real deal.
This is a chirpy, forward-looking track that oozes positivity and shows us a side of Jamie that we’ve never seen before. We look forward to what the rest of In Colour has to offer.
In Colour Is Set To Drop On June 2nd and can be pre-ordered HERE. Listen To “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)” above.
