True, they are an extremely strong musical team, but Jay Rock has always been one of the most hard-hitting (and probably my favourite) rapper of the TDE bunch. We’ve been happily following and enjoying his recent comeback slew of aggressively forward tracks after he went off the radar for a short while (with many fans fearing he’d been irrevocably overshadowed by TDE heavyweights Kendrick and Schoolboy Q).
However, it looks as if Jay is ready to make a roaring comeback with a follow up album to 2012’s Follow Me Home. Having dropped a number of impressive tracks of late, Jay Rock’s newest gift is the psychedelic, almost Jimi Hendrix sounding “Gumbo”, paying tribute to the Louisiana dish and dropping right on time for 4th July celebrations. Shining out over the rolling and spacey instrumental, Jay’s delivery is still as concretely gritty as ever, and we’re very looking much forward to what further cuts he has up his sleeve for his upcoming release!
