JC Villafan may not be a name you’re familiar with currently, but one you’ll surely be hearing from soon and if you’re like me, you’ll be a fan in no time.
Based out of Los Angeles, the 24-year old singer-songwriter is no stranger to the music scene, as he’s been perfecting his craft since the age of 16.
Throughout the last 8 years, Villafan has performed all over, touring all around America, as well as even traveling to Europe where he’s since built up a loyal fanbase. His style of pop, rock, and folk is built around his ultimate goal of inspiring and encouraging others to pursue the greatest fulfillment of their wildest dreams and this is evident in each one of his projects.
Now having two EP’s under his belt with one being nominated for an L.A. Music Critic Award (Sweet Time, 2012), Villafan is gearing up for the release of his debut album, America’s For Dreamers, which is set to drop on May 17th.
Recently, I was given the opportunity to stream America’s For Dreamers a bit early so I could provide you guys with a #NSM review, and what I can tell you right away is that this is an incredibly honest and uplifting body of work.
America’s For Dreamers reflects on Villafan’s journey and heritage, beginning with the story of his parents’ voyage to America. Back in 1991, Villafan’s then 5-month-pregnant mother climbed over the border with her husband in hopes of creating a better life for their son; à la the American Dream. From there, in the words of Villafan himself:
“The album continues with my ceaseless pursuit of a dream. A selfless dream that oversights fame and fortune for making a difference and uplifting those who stop to listen. The album ends at exactly right where I find myself today”.
The album includes 10 tracks, with most of them demonstrating a slower, relaxing feel, but what it lacks in tempo, it makes up for in melody and meaning. Each song tells a story and really makes you think, which is a quality that can be hard to find these days and one that should be celebrated when it is.
It’s evident through his music that Villafan lives to be the best version of himself while doing all he can to help others be the best version of themselves. His music tells his story, one that he’s still writing, but just like all of ours, one that deserves to be told.
Some of my favorite tracks include: “The Moment”, “Be Free”, and “Willing”, however, each track holds a special place on the record.
America’s For Dreamers will be released on May 17th, but you can pre-order it from iTunes now!
You can check out a live acoustic version of the album’s lead single, “The Moment” from YouTube at the top of this post, and if you like what you hear you can download the studio version as a part of the America’s For Dreamers: Acoustic Sampler for free here!
