If I could choose my dreams, I would want them to be full of meaningful metaphors, shadows, and psychedelic split screens with smooth motion. If I could choose the soundtrack, dreamy synth-pop would probably be it. Leon Seti provides all of this in his video for “Silver Lining” — the first offering from upcoming sophomore album Cobalt.
The imagery here works hard and creates solid meaning. From ball-gags to knives to plants — all against a white backdrop with shadows galore, we watch as Seti moves and poses for the camera, aware of the act of performance and fully realized until the kaleidoscopic movements fragment everything. The lyrics are as poetic as the images: “I wonder what is the colour of your fever,” Seti sings. The song is about love and loss and the dangers of relying on someone. “We met when I most needed you / so I know all the shit I put you through.”
“Silver Lining” is an exciting taste of what is to come. We can only wait to see what Leon Seti will offer next. To keep up with the artist while we wait, you can follow him on his Facebook page, and Bandcamp. You can also find him on Twitter.
