It’s hard not to think Bowie when you see a title like “The Starman” — and perhaps this is intentional. Lord Sonny the Unifier are very much inspired by the classic rock artists of the 60s and 70s. With melody-forward riffs and electric guitar ambiance, “The Starman” is the story of those unearthly brilliant minds that walk among us and then disappear.
In the clip, we watch the Starman himself as he uncovers a book filled with alien language and a human disguise in the forest. From there he moves through a town and eventually into one of the most famous spaces of human activity: Times Square. Overwhelming to anyone — but particularly to someone not of this earth — he leaves. The modern era is just too much.
Nostalgia and appreciation combine in the concept and the way Lord Sonny the Unifier make music. Led by Gregory Jiritano, the band also consists of Carmine Covelli on drums, Tyler Wood on keyboard and Derek Nievergelt on bass. “The Starman” comes from their record, FINAL NOTICE!, which will be released on April 13th, 2019.
