Making his #NSM debut on this fine Sunday afternoon is none other than Cleveland, Ohio’s black rock multi-instrumentalist, Marcus Alan Ward.

Growing up, Ward was involved in his local music scene, spending time in and out of bands throughout middle and high school before being introduced to a more diverse selection of musical genre’s in college. It was around this time that Ward’s solo career began to develop, only his first couple projects were released under the moniker “Freeze-Tag” (2012’s WLDFLWR_HNY and 2013’s Eskimo).

It wasn’t until the release of his 2014 debut studio album, Last Night I Grew Tentacles (via his own Long Division Recordings) that Ward started to use his own name.

“It really draws distinction to the fact that I’m a one man composer and that it’s just me, it’s more honest.”

– Marcus Alan Ward

Ward was brought to our attention with the release of his latest single “Little Sunshine”.

It’s impossible to tag just one genre on this track, which perhaps is what makes it so appealing. Drawing qualities from alternative rock, pop, and hip-hop, it’s a fresh sound that succeeds in its aim to be unique. Ward’s catchy guitar riffs and scratchy vocals draw you in and compel you to hit the replay button every time the track ends.

You can stream “Little Sunshine” via Soundcloud and if you dig the sound as much as we do, you can cop a free download here!
