Loosely based on the tale of “Brenda’s Got a Baby” by Tupac Shakur, “Brenda’s Babies” continues the story as it correlates to the generational slavery, mental captivity and history repetition still plaguing our generation and beyond.
Brenda’s Babies addresses these issues as deeply rooted in cycles of absentee parenting, institutional-ism, divided conquer and escapism. It recognizes systemic and systematic racism as long term residuals of slavery even over 400 years later.
The record attempts to offer some insight and perspective to the epidemic of drugs and violence as glamorized by our youth today. As victims of circumstance turned aggressors, and for the necessary evils, tables are turned and the prey turn predators.
“Brenda’s Babies” serves as the first single offering to Meka’s upcoming project.
