“All that matters is I came back, no matter what it took to get here,” Nick Vivid sings on “Ricochet”. The New York musician has been playing the scene for some time, fluidly moving between genres, but always keeping true to who he is. “Ricochet” announces his return with retro-synth psychedelia and a slick guitar solo. These sounds will easily find a home in the hearts of MGMT or Tame Impala fans.
Wearing bell-bottoms and taking over a New York playground, Vivid goes semi-minimal in the video for the song, which at first listen might also strike as uncomplicated — but wait — the shifts that come will sweep you up and into summer vibes. Stick to it: the repeated refrains here are candid and inspirational. With washed out and over-exposed lighting effects and moves to make you want to dance, Nick Vivid delivers a visual experience that flows with the energy of the track.
“Ricochet” comes off Nick Vivid’s autobiographical record, Blissed Out, which was released on May 17th and details his experiences and journeys as an artist. To hear more from Nick Vivid, you can find him on his website, Bandcamp, and Facebook page. You can also follow him on Twitter.
