I’ll admit: the emotional nature of airports is something that has always affected me. They are spaces made of open emotion — whether it be celebratory or sad, excited or exhausted. There is so much to mine in an airport setting, and Nothing More look to all of this in their video for “Just Say When”.
Opening on the band as they sit waiting in a nighttime terminal (and we’ve all been there, haven’t we?), “Just Say When” explores the softer side of what the band can do — particularly when it comes to vocalist Johnny Hawkins. For a band that has always had a range of genre but generally leans on a punk aesthetic, this track embraces sweet vocals and a luscious melody. It’s bittersweet to the root.
In a visual match to the beauty of the music, the clip also features a couple as they reunite in an airport and break out into an interpretive dance that both rejoices in the music and in the affection that they feel. The video cuts between the dancers and the band as they sit static, acknowledging the many emotions that exist in airports as spaces separated from time.
“Just Say When” is Nothing More’s latest single from their album The Stories We Tell Ourselves. To hear more from the band, you can find them on their website, Spotify, and Facebook page. You can also follow them on Twitter.
