Get ready, Leondro’s about to drop another fun, energetic track. This time, he’s using his clear passion and meaningful lyrics to make a difference. His soon-to-be-released track, “Super Big” celebrates his mother for being there and supporting him and his siblings in Toronto as they grew up. With Yoko Gold’s smooth vocals backing the message with a joyful chorus, this track is sure to get you in a positive space. “Super Big” will be premiered in Toronto on the CBC’s Easter Seals Telethon, which raises money for children living in Ontario with physical disabilities. Living in Toronto? You can check out the cause right here. Living elsewhere? Check out the link on Leondro’s website here. But don’t just let me tell you. Let’s hear from the man himself:

Hey Leondro! Thank-you for answering my questions during such a busy weekend. How has preparing for the telethon been going?

It’s been going fantastic!!  I am so honored to have been asked to perform this song. These amazing kids have endured so much in their young lives and I hope this song keeps inspiring them to keep dreaming super and do anything in life that they put their minds to.

Your music often tilts towards the celebratory, be it an inspiring record label or your hard-working mother. Do you see this as an important facet of your creative process?

Yes, it definitely is. Being able to believe in myself and celebrate all the blessings life has given me gives me the motivation to continue to improve myself and grow as an artist.  I want to celebrate life and continue to try and motivate people to become the best that they can be.

“Super Big” will be premiered on The Easter Seals Telethon, which will raise money for children living with physical disabilities in Ontario. Can you tell us more about the charity and the event?

The Easter Seals telethon has been raising money for children with disabilities for the past 33 years!! This wonderful organization has helped thousands of children and their families over the years.  They help provide funding for wheelchairs, orthodics, accessibility aids and even send kids to camp!!  Without the  Easter Seals Telethon fundraising efforts, many of these amazing children would have difficulty with everyday life. The donations that are made change so many lives. I am so honoured to be able to help these amazing kids. I hope that my fans will join me in donating generously to this amazing cause.

I have set up a link on my website to donate to Easter Seals. I will be presenting a cheque to them on Sunday after my performance.  If you wish to donate please go to: https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/FundraisingPage.aspx?registrationID=3212334&langPref=en-CA#&panel1-2

The new track celebrates your mother’s tireless efforts to raise her children as a single-parent. How has she reacted to the song?

She loves it!  I think that she was very touched by the song, but mom being mom, always tries to act tough!!  She hasn’t watched me perform it live, she gets so nervous you would think she was the one on stage, haha.  I love my mom, and I know how much she loves me. She helped me so much in my life. She is a true inspiration to me.

How has the Toronto scene affected your music?

Toronto is my home!! My music is Toronto. What is happening in the music industry today in Toronto is long over due. We are a great city and we are making the world pay attention to us.  I’m thrilled to be a part of the Toronto music scene.

You have a world of experience behind your music. As someone who does a lot of both, how would you weigh the importance of getting out and living life over reflecting on the past and creating art from it?

I am living life today because of my reflections of my past life.  My life was tough growing up, but it has made me the man I am today.  My experiences makes writing my music easier.  I think music is always best when it comes from the heart and my life has been full of good and bad, and all these are reflected in my tracks.

Who are your musical influences?

My musical influences growing up were Puff Daddy and The Fugees.

Who are you listening to lately?

Today I am listening to anybody and everybody.  When you are in this industry you are constantly listening to different artists. There are really too many to list as I have respect for so many of them, from the big names to the new artists breaking onto the scene

What’s on the horizon for you?

There’s no limit. I want people to hear my music. I want to perform and continue on this fantastic journey.

Do you have any advice for young people who hope to make music one day?

Be true to yourself.  No matter how many people tell you it’s a tough industry and you’ll never make it, believe in yourself and keep pushing forward.  I want all my fans to “KEEP DREAMING SUPER BIG!!”
