Ready, Steady, Die! release ominous track and clip for “Deep”

Morgan Visconti and Sam K. are the power team behind Ready, Steady, Die! — a project with as much intensity as the title suggests, though perhaps a little more subtlety.

Dreamy darkwave could categorize “Deep”, but this track is more of an atmospheric journey. Ominous plucking and dreamy vocals that are both menacing and delicate introduce the track and carry throughout. But this track is never predictable, and soon we are not so much breaking as smashing open into a piece that is layered and rich. “No, don’t try and change it / ‘Cause you know, you’ve got to go down, down deep,” the lyrics demand. Well, poison can be sweet.

The accompanying clip — directed by Visconti himself under his moniker  WeekendClass — is just as dangerous. Here, the beauty of trees is crystallized and delved into until the blood is rushing and swarms of insects overwhelm. The “down deep” that the lyrics pull you into, as it turns out, is no place of safety.
