River Tiber, Pusha T, and KAYTRANADA join forces on “Illusion.” The smooth track is accompanied by drowsy, soothing vocals from River Tiber, a lyrically sound verse from Pusha T, and the unique production from KAYTRANADA that we’ve come to expect on each single he graces. Also featured on production (with River Tiber and KAYTRANADA) is frequent Weeknd collaborator, Doc McKinney.
Toronto’s own Tommy Paxton-Beesley has quickly skyrocketed into notoriety after being sampled on Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, along with recent collaborations with the likes of Daniel Caesar, Jazz Cartier, BADBADNOTGOOD, and Ghostface Killah. (Toronto really is out here.) However, a listen through 2015’s When The Time is Right EP speaks for itself and proves that River Tiber’s vocals and production stand on their own. On the tipping point of truly becoming a household name, the release of his debut album Indigo (set to drop this spring) is sure play a major role in this occuring.
Not to be outdone, Montreal’s KAYTRANADA is set to release his own debut album, 99.9%, on May 6th. Already a household name among hip-hop producers, the idea of a solo album from KAYTRANADA is a very intriguing and exciting notion. Features from the likes Anderson .Paak, Vic Mensa, Goldlink, and Syd the Kid will certainly help in getting his name out into the mainstream. The release of “BUS RIDE” (which, hey, features River Tiber) gives us a sneak peek as to what to expect from this project and is one of many examples of Canada’s current influence on the hip-hop scene.
