We like to think of the past and the future as opposites, but like most opposites, they share more than they differ.
A cat is much closer to a dog than a spoon. Up is a direction that we have the ability to point our attention in, as is down. For Sebastian Mikael, opposites attract and merge into one high-style, good times video that bends your perceptions just as it draws your attention to them. This is “Acid Part II”.
It’s not as complicated as it sounds. With his saxophone-smooth through-line and lyrical refrains, “Acid Part II” is all groove. A song to chill out to, to put on at a summer party, to lose yourself in. With touches of Marvin Gaye and Prince, Sebastian Mikael draws from a canon of influences but adds a thoroughly modern touch.
The video plays out at a joyful party, all hazy with multi-coloured lights — but if you look closer you’ll notice some hints of a different world. Spot the smoking fish chilling in a fish tank, for instance. When the end comes around, it all falls into place, timelessly.
