The news just doesn’t stop with Sufjan Stevens. The singer-songwriter only just released his acclaimed album Carrie and Lowell on the 31st of March, 2015, and yet here he is with “Exploding Whale” a track that previously could only be purchased on a tour-only EP.
The song, which is speculated to be inspired by the whale carcass found on an Oregon beach in 1970 and the way officials attempted to handle that situation (spoiler: they blew up the whale), is a much more electronic side of Stevens. Despite its possible conception material, the track is a delicate and melancholy exploration of emotions both repressed and overwhelming.
Keep up with this busy and non-stop year Sufjan Stevens have been having on his website.
