Personally, I can never get enough of indie-rock with high-energy joy vibes — particularly when that joy comes with a gentle side of realistic skepticism. Swimming With Bears are here to provide.
The Austin, Texas four-piece bring elements of Motown sound to their pop jams and, after winning hearts with their anthemic hooks and stellar live performances, are here with “Keep Smiling”. With speak-sass that reminds of Mother Mother tilting into a highly catchy refrain, “Keep Smiling” tells it like it is; or perhaps like it should be: “No one cares ‘cause life’s not fair / Keep smiling,” vocalist Joe Perry delivers.
The clip showcases some of the band’s famed live energy. Swimming With Bears are set up in a diner, dancing as they play in a way that would pull the focus, if it weren’t for the joyous cast of diner characters pulling dance moves and making the most of the day. Slipping from early morning to late-night lighting, the clip never releases its bright energy. By the end, you’ll either be dancing along, or feeling peckish for a classic diner breakfast.
