Tancred has given a pop-culture laced treatment to her track, “Something Else”. The punchy song has an air of 90s nostalgia, with sweet vocals creating catchy melodies above the addictive riffs — but the clip takes the nostalgia factor back even further. Grab that 50s aesthetic and run. We’re back in another world now.
Taking creative cues from the Netflix show Riverdale — itself based on the Archie Comics — Tancred sees herself and Brittany Ashley as sweethearts, while Potty Mouth plays the band setting the mood. Costume changes nod to the fluidity of gender presentation as the band plays their hearts out on a flashy stage. By the time the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” reminiscent cheerleaders add their slow-motion pep, the aesthetic range becomes the name of the game. It doesn’t matter where or when we are, it matters what we are feeling. “Something Else” feels like glamorous love.
“Something Else” comes from Tancred’s latest album, Nightstand. She will be touring through the fall with The Joy Formidable and Kississippi. You can find more from Tancred on her website and Facebook page. You can also follow her on Twitter.
