Almost a year ago we found the love song of the fall in Tritonal’s “Good Thing”. Now, as we prepare to say goodbye to the summer, the Austin duo are back with their knack for the catchiest of hooks and the most unexpected of drops. This time, the song takes you on a journey with a heavier twist to it: particularly in relation to the accompanying video.
“Love U Right” is notable for its understated verses. The emphasis here is on the stirring and smooth vocals of Lourdiz, who’s featured position brings a complex world of emotion to the table befitting the song’s mood. Alongside a snapping and pulsing beat, her voice draws the synths forward until the chorus drops and the whole world expands as though the room has lost gravity.
In the accompanying clip, the lyrics take on a more forlorn context as we watch a relationship come apart. As the couple moves physically away from each other, they both become drawn deep into memories of the past. Moments of joy are trapped just out of reach of the couple, who now have to learn to push forward as individuals. Perhaps not the most romantic of clips, Tritonal instead reach into something deeper.
