“Trippy” is one way to describe Merrill Garbus (AKA tUnE-yArDs)’s new video for the equally trippy track, “Wait for A Minute”, from the 2014 album Nikki Nack. “Busy” is another. The video features layers of pixelated images floating on top of one another in an array of colours, allowing the mind to form connections and create meaning.
I was lucky enough to see tUnE-yArDs live last year when Garbus toured as the opening act for Arcade Fire. The performance featured on-the-spot drum loops layered with ukelele and a bass track by Nate Brenner. It’s an astounding and truly mesmerizing project, to be sure.
