Harlem rapper A$AP ROCKY has had a busy few weeks to say the very least. After taking part in Red Bull Music Academy‘s London tour, which included performing on stage with Skepta and Mos Def at a London club and conducting an interview in front of an audience, he has also released a new single (“M’s”) and come very close to throwing a beatdown on some locals at a London bagel shop. Most recently, Rocky has his big-screen premiere with the release of the trailer for upcoming movie “Dope”. You may recognize some other contemporary Hip-Hop faces in the trailer, with Tyga, Vince Staples, Chanel Iman and Casey Veggies also snatching roles in the film, with Pharrell executive producing the film and contributing new songs to the soundtrack.
The film’s plot follows young male Malcolm (played by Shameik Moore), who struggles balancing life between being a straight A-grade student, and living in one of Inglewood, California’s most challenging slums, “The Bottom”. Things take an exciting turn for the worse when Malcolm and his friends meet up with Rocky’s character at a party, and accidentally end up heavily involved in the drugs trade.
Dope is set to appear in theaters on June 19th.
