Fall is now upon us, but hold tight before you look for those cozy, chill tunes that often help guide into the festive tones of winter, because The Winter Sounds — despite their name — have one last taste of anthemic summer pop.
“Heartbeats” could find itself among the biggest songs of the summer for all its hooks and jolts. The track never stays the same for long, but instead gradually increases in scope. Just when you think it couldn’t get any better, a chorus of horns start and lift this song to a place of pure celebration.
The video also evokes summer. Bright colours, beautiful green forests and fields, and creatures all make the world of the clip feel magical. Filmed in Estonia, The Winter Sounds’ singer Patrick Keenan is seen exploring the space where civilization meets nature. We see wildlife, farm animals, and — my favourite — a scurrying hedgehog filling the space, while one apartment building encroaches grandly and lights up as night falls. The vibe, for both the track and the video, is nothing short of enchanting.
