What happens when three LA songwriters join forces and create a band of their own? Marc Avery, Sean Carney, and Rockwell Sands did just that and the result, WOLVES, is a hook-driven pop group with stellar control over their sound and a single and video debut that will pull you into their wild world.
Binding the vitality of modern-day humanity to the natural world, both the track and video for “Animal” crave a place where inhibitions are given up in favour of something more raw. “Love me like an animal,” Marc Avery sings as the chorus bursts to fruition. His polished voice — which can be smooth at times and addictively rhythmic at others — is supported by clubby synths and a fervent drum line. The song is fun, through and through, and the video indulges in this.
The humanity of a cityscape punctuates the background as WOLVES play on a rooftop, then later in the wilderness of a forest. The energy is electric. All daylight and washed out colours, the video later contrasts the band scenes with the nighttime reds and purples of the club. It’s an intoxicating blend of time, of space, and of human experience.
