Yaysh isn’t holding anything back. Her latest single, “Daep” jumps right into her clear and raw voice declaring “You so daep”, then jumping into the minimalistic freestyle-inspired track that is unabashedly affectionate. “Daep” means beautiful in Vietnamese, but Yaysh’ll convey it in English too, because she knows who she is and what she wants to say.
The LGBTQ+ rights advocate describes her sound with “if Kanye West and Adele had a baby…I would be that baby..and Drake would be my cousin.” And you can be sure that Kanye’s true-to-self vibes come across clearly, while the sweetness of Yaysh’s singing does evoke the clarity of the British songstress.
“Daep” was produced by Troy “R8dio” Johnson, whom Yaysh welcomes into her world. “We are both spiritual people who live in this worldly world and we both make amazing music,” she says. “Combined we are incredible.” You can feel the careful production in the way the vocals come closer and peel away, giving a depth that could otherwise feel lost amidst the minimal melodies. As it is, the track feels whole and fierce.
